Entry door with sidelites – A doors with attached side lighting often called door systems sold in one piece units. A crucial first step in this project is to take the appropriate measures to ensure that will fit your replacement front door with sidelights in the existing rough opening. Find someone to help you with this task. Remove all exterior and interior trim at the perimeter of the door and sidelight door frame.
Cut through each nail between the frame and the wall frame with a reciprocating saw. Trim all exposed insulation around the frame with a blade. Pull out the old insulation and discard. Remove the old entry door with sidelites unit with your help. Stand on one side of the unit and carefully tilt the door unit to both of you. Seize the door unit and carry it away from the rough opening door.
Attach a threshold support to the bottom of the rough opening through screws on each side of the frame. The sill carrier may consist of a piece of wood stud cut to the exact width of the opening, typically a half-inch or more in thickness. Apply three beads of silicone to the top of the sill support. Insert the new Entry door with sidelites unit with sidelight in the rough opening, using your helper to move it. Set the bottom of the door unit above the sill support and tilting the device in place within the door opening.
